The new BP Tru range, designed to offer higher levels of accuracy in the measurement of hypertension, has been launched by medical equipment distributor, MESM. The breakthrough blood pressure monitoring range helps to reduce the overdiagnosis of high blood pressure, resulting from situational hypertension or ‘white coat response’, reported in patients nervous of clinical settings.
According to studies, approximately 25% of hypertensive patients have white coat hypertension.[1] Shown in temporarily elevated blood pressure upon arrival at the surgery, patients can often present misleading test results when a single reading is taken, typically with aneroid or mercury devices. This overdiagnosis can lead to long-term, unnecessary treatment for high blood pressure.
The BP Tru monitors take six readings over six minutes, allowing medical staff to attend to other duties whilst the patient is given time to relax. By discounting the first reading and taking the mean result of the last five readings, the monitors provide results proven to be as accurate as those taken by a 24 hour ambulatory BP monitor.[2]
As well as being a low-cost, convenient alternative to taking 24 hour readings with an ambulatory BP monitor, the BP Tru range also reduces patient discomfort by preventing the need for monitoring over long periods.
The range comprises three models to suit a variety of clinical needs. The BPM-100 is wall mountable with an AC power supply and comes complete with three sizes of latex-free cuffs. The BPM-200 is suitable for table-top use and is also wall or roll stand mountable and features a USB port, rechargeable battery and universal power supply. The BPM-300 includes all of the BPM-200 features, with additional temperature monitoring apparatus.
MESM is now a distributor for the BP Tru range to Clinical Trials, providing the equipment, training and annual service support globally
Based in Lancashire, MESM’s experience includes 30 years of global purchasing operations and 10 years in the medical equipment supply and service industry. The firm aims to bridge the gap between manufacturers and end users offering the complete procurement, supply and service management on behalf of customers.
MESM supplies a wide range of medical equipment for doctors, hospitals, laboratories, clinical trials and patient at home care, including ECGs, BP Monitors, spirometers, refrigeration, ultrasound, incubators and centrifuges.
